What is a location pin?

A location pin looks like this . It appears on the map, and represents something different on each page. The key at the right-hand side of the map explains what each colour represents in each context.

How do I add location pins to the map?

To add location pins, use the controls to the right of the map. These consist of tick boxes for each category. Just click the box to tick or untick it. On the Events page, choose a date range using the dropdown list controls then click 'Filter'.

How do I move around the map?

There are two ways to move around the map.

  • Click and drag on the main map.
  • Use the four arrow buttons in the top left-hand corner.

How do I zoom in and out?

There are three ways to zoom in and out.

  • Click the plus and minus buttons at the left-hand side of the map.
  • Click the slider in between the plus and minus buttons.
  • If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, you can scroll up (on the

map) to zoom in and scroll down to zoom out.

How do I switch between the map and aerial photography?

Just click the 'Aerial' button in the top left-hand corner of the map to switch to aerial photography, and the 'Map' button to switch back.

How do I find out what a location pin represents?

To find out what a location pin represents, just click on it (when the mouse cursor resembles a pointing finger), and an information bubble will appear showing the name and a short description.

To find out more, click the name or the 'more details' link to go to the page for whatever the pin represents.

How do I list nearby places?

On pages on which nearby places to visit, enjoy and stay are shown to the right of the map, a tick box appears beside each category. Click on this to show or hide a list of the places in that category, which will be shown on the map as location pins when the tick box for the category is ticked.

How do I find out where a particular place is?

Clicking on the name of a place in the list to the right of the map brings up the information bubble for that place above its location pin.

How do I view, download and print off route directions?

Navigate to a route page by clicking on its pin on the map, then clicking its name or 'more details' in the bubble that appears. Then click the Route Directions tab beneath the map to view the directions, or the Route Download tab followed by the PDF icon to download all of the route details, including the directions and a map, in a handy pack that you can print off and take with you.
